There are a numerous plates of rocks on the earth's surface. When one rock plates slips on the another plate then the vibrations takes place and we called it as earthquake.The surface on where the plates slip to each other is called fault plane.The location below the earths surface from where the earthquake starts is called the hypocenter and the location directly above the surface of earth is called epicentre.
We all have a common question why this happens well inner core,outer core,crust,and mantle are the four layers covering the earth.The crust and the top of the mantle are arranged in like head and tail and they make the layers of the earth. If we watched all this pieces carefully then we observe many small pieces moving slowly here and there collidimg and slipping with one another.This small pieces are called as techtonic plates that forms the whole layers of the earth.The edges of this plates are very rough. When the plates begin to move from one plates to another by passing they got stuck onto the surface and certain energy is stored on them and the energy is continuosly released by the plates unstick and a seismic waves radiates through the surface of the earth and this causes the vibrations of earth.The instruments used to record the earthquake is called siesmograph and their recording is known as seismogram

According to the different mythology have different reasons for the causes of the earthquake.According to ancient greece,the god of the sea,poseidon have caused the earthquake.According to this mythology when the god became angry he would strike the ground with his trident and this causes the earthquake so the god was given the nickname as the "earth shaker".Similarly according to hindu mythology the earth is held by eight big elephant which is balanced on the back of turtle and that turtle is also put on the coil of snakes.If there is imbalance between them the earthquake comes. According to the japanese mythology a giant catfish called namazu causes earthquake. Hence in this todays era all this things are outdated as we have got enough scientific proof to prove this.
Similarly many of us too have a question of how true it is that weather and animals can predict the earthquake well in most of the cases they are true but are also false in some cases so the scientist couldn't recognize how do they predict this things and how do they show this things similarly they show certain behaviour change before a few minutes or seconds how to they change have remained mysterious and dark side.
Many people in the world lose their lives due to this disaster the highest magnitude of earthquake recorded was in southern Chile valdivia in 1960 and it had the magnitude of 9.5 according to the U.S geological survey. Indonesia has more earthquake than that of other countries.
