The phenomenon of the light rays showing right appearance on left and left appearance on right is known as lateral inversion. Usually when we stand in front of a mirror then it shows lateral inversion. We cannot read the letters from our clothes. Also this is the reason that the word ambulance is written in the mirror reading form which when reflect from the mirror gives a correct word ambulance. In this topic we will discuss why do it occur and why do selfie pictures are laterally inversion.
Today selfie has become a modern trend of taking the pictures in different postures. When taking selfie we might have observed that all the objects that are actually on left appeared all at right and vice versa. This doesn't occur while taking the pictures from the front camera. What might be the reason for this? Well the selfie camera act like a mirror. We might also have used it to look spots or any things like the mirror. It also shows the picture by the reflection and by same phenomena as mirror does so when we capture the picture the image it shows the mirror produce image due to which our brain gets confused on it and cannot detect how the appearance change. Due to the face symmetry also we may not feel the drastic change. We should consider the ray diagram for the reflection of light in the plane mirror. It also depends upon our psychology. For example when we look the mirror and wave our right hand then from our view the mirror side is also right but if another person stands side to the mirror and observe the image then from his view it is in the left side. The same thing happens when capturing the image from the selfie camera. It is like the same case as mirror as previously mentioned.
Hence in this way the pictures from selfie acts as a mirror image. The phenomenon is called lateral inversion.
